Xiaomi has now officially released the Redmi 9 at an event that took place in Spain. The device, unlike the predecessor, Redmi 8, features a Quad-camera system, MediaTek processor, and it’s being offered at an affordable price.
The Xiaomi Redmi 9 has a compact design with three of the camera lens aligned vertically alongside the fingerprint scanner while the fourth lens and the LED-Flash sit at the left side. The sensors are a primary 13MP snapper, 8MP ultra-wide-angle-lens, 5MP macro shooter, and 2MP depth sensor.
On the front panel is a 6.53-inch Full HD+ LCD, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. According to Xiaomi, the screen boasts of 89.83% screen-to-body ratio. Under the hood is MediaTek Helio G89 Octa-Core Chipset paired with up to 4GB RAM. It also supports expansion via microSD up to 512GB.
To complement the power-demanding specs of the Xiaomi Redmi 9 is a beefy 5020mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging via a Type-C USB port. Unfortunately, what comes with the package is a 10W charge.
Interestingly, the device supports NFC, but there’s a possibility it will only be available in selected markets. The 3.5mm headphone is there and sits beside the USB port. Other specs include Bluetooth 5.9, FM Radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n at 2.4GHz. Outside-of-the-box, the device runs Android 10 based on MIUI 11. With MIUI 12 expected to start arriving this month, Xiaomi Redmi 9 will also be receiving the update.

Xiaomi Redmi 9 pricing and availability
The device comes in two memory configurations: 3/32GB and 4/64GB. The former sets you back $157 while the latter starts at $190, but there’s a catch. You can only get the device at that price from June 15 to 17, which is the pre-sale period. After that, the price will go to $170 for the 32GB model while the 64GB version starts selling at $203.
