Qualcomm has refreshed it’s 400 series chipset line with a 5G enabled Snapdragon 480 SoC. That fulfills Qualcomm’s promise to bring 5G enabled phones to many people around the globe by making an entry-level chip with 5G support. Now, we expect Xiaomi and other OEMs to release a Snapdragon 480 phone, which of course, will be affordable.
Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 480 SoC, is built on an 8nm process node. When compared to the predecessor, the CPU performance has greatly improved. The SoC also gains 100% improvement in GPU performance, according to Qualcomm. It uses Kryo 460 based cortex-A76 core architecture with a clock speed of 2.0GHz. The power-efficient cores, which are based on Cortex-A55, clocks at 1.8GHz. As for the GPU, it features Adreno 619, with improved performance.
Snapdragon 480 phones will support FHD+ display with up to 120Hz refresh rate. And thanks to Qualcomm’s Spectra 345 ISP with support for 64MP camera sensor and 1080p recording at 60 fps. It also supports simultaneous capture from up to three camera sensors.
For network connectivity, which is probably the best part of the Snapdragon 480, the SoC employs the Snapdragon X51 modem. It has support for both mmWave and sub-6GHz networks. There’s also support for SA and NSA 5G nodes, Dynamic Spectrum Sharing, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.1.
With the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 SoC, entry-level smartphones can now support Quick Charge 4+, which guarantees faster charging. Other features of the SoC include up to 2.6Gbps download speed and an 800Mbps download link. Qualcomm signal Boost antenna tuning, sending Hub, AI-based echo cancellation, and others.

Vivo Y31s 5G

The Vivo Y31s 5G becomes the first smartphone to run the newly released Snapdragon 480 SoC. It’s the first device on our list of Snapdragon 480 phones and presents some decent specs.
Around the front panel is a 6.58-inch IPS LCD panel with a 90Hz refresh rate and 1080 x 2480p reso. Under the hood is the Snapdragon 480 and comes paired with up 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The rear camera features a dual-sensor – 13MP + 2MP, while the front snapper has an 8MP lens.
Powering the device is a beefy 5000mAh battery and supports 18W fast charging. Other features of the phone include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, Bluetooth 5.1, shooting 4K @ 30fps, and Android 11. The device is available in Red, Gray, Aurora color options.

Oppo A74 5G
Oppo A74 5G is the latest device on our list of Snapdragon 480 phones. It gets 6GB of RAM paired with 128GB of storage with an expandable memory slot. Outside of the box, the device runs Android 11 on top of ColorOS 11.1. As the name suggests, it’s 5G enabled, with the modem offering up to 2.1Gbps download speed.
Meanwhile, the display sports a 6.43-inch IPS LCD panel. It refreshes at 90Hz with a 180Hz sampling rate. The Oppo A74 5G supports a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut.There’s a punch hole at the top left for a 16MP shooter, while the rear Quad-camera has a primary 48MP sensor. The additional sensors are an 8MP ultra-wide lens and 2MP depth and macro sensors.
The battery capacity is 5000mAh with support for 18W fast charging. It features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner while supporting Bluetooth 5.1 and a Headphone jack. You can purchase the device in Silver and Black colors, starting at €290.
Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G
The next Snapdragon 480 phone on our list is the Moto G Stylus 5G. As the name suggests, the device supports a stylus pen, just like the Galaxy Note series phone. It has a tall 6.8-inch display of 1080 X 2400p resolution. Under the hood is a Snapdragon 480 5G processor paired with 6G of RAM and 256GB of storage. There’s a dedicated memory slot for expansion, while outside of the, you get Android 11.
Behind the camera, performance is primary 48MP sensor, 8MP ultra-wide lens, 5MP depth, and 2MP macro shooter. The front camera has a single 16MP sensor for selfies and video calls.
Powering the device is a beefy 5000mAh battery with support for 10W fast charging. The device follows the side-mounted fingerprint scanner trend. Motorola is offering the device in all Cosmic Emerald color only at $350.
