It took a bit of time for Xiaomi to release the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G Android 11 update. That’s because the global version of the device (Mi 10T Lite) has already received the update. Before the Android 11 update starts rolling out, all major updates are first rolled out in China before making their way to the global units. However, the reverse has been the case for mid-range Xiaomi offering as the update finally started arriving for the Chinese ROM users.
The update is currently on a limited rollout, meaning only the Mi Pilot team will receive the update for preview. After the beta preview phase, which will probably last for a couple of days, the update would start arriving for the public. But as always, you can side-load the recovery ROM, but that will require an Authorized Mi beta Account. Otherwise, flashing the ROM will return an error unless you have a compatible TWRP Recovery installed.
However, we can confirm that the update is hitting eligible users with a build number – MIUI 12.0.2.0 RJSCNXM- and weighs in at 3.1GB. The build brings a stable MIUI based on Android 11 and has improved the system performance and security. But given that the current update is the first cross-section Android upgrade for the device, some third-party might need time to adapt to the new OS. Hence, we recommend that you backup your data before installing the update in case a factory reset is required after installation.
Nevertheless, you might need to wait for feedback before upgrading your device, given the complexities of Xiaomi Android 11 builds. And if you didn’t receive the update and can’t side-load the ROM, you will have to wait for the public rollout. That might commence in a couple of days, depending on the outcome of the beta preview.
