It has been confirmed that Redmi Note 8 will receive Android 11 with the closed beta group already running a beta build based on the current Android OS. Xiaomi will also upgrade the device to MIUI 12.5, but none is happening at the moment as yet another underwhelming global Redmi Note 8 update starts rolling out. However, only Mi Pilots will get the update to preview the ROM for bugs before the public rollout.
Recently, Xiaomi recruited Beta testers (Mi Pilots) that’ll test each build before public rollout. The idea to recruit more members was a result of bug reports after each stable release. Also, the company has been facing some issues with its MIUI Android skin, and hence, decided to roll out updates to select users before public release . That’s what they have done with the new global Redmi Note 8 update. Only Beta testers will receive the update for now, pending when the preview is completed. Therefore, you might wait a little longer before getting a prompt notification of the new update.
Meanwhile, the new global Redmi Note 8 update is hitting eligible users with a version number – MIUI 12.0.5.0 QCOMIXM – and weighs in at 186MB. It’s a security patch build to improve system security and stability while optimizing performance. Again, it doesn’t bring the much anticipated Android 11 update, but we believe the new update will fortify the device ahead of the upgrade.
That said, you should keep an eye on our Android 11 tracker page so you’d be notified when the update is available. Also, check our MIUI 12.5 tracker, as both upgrades might roll out simultaneously.
