Google, earlier today, released the source of Android 12 to the Android Open Source Project. It means the latest version of Android is official but won’t be arriving for Pixel owners yet. According to the company, the update will be available in the coming weeks, while OEMs like Xiaomi will push the update later this year. That might not be the case as the global Xiaomi Mi 11i Android 12 update has been released.
The Android 12 update, compared to previous releases, brings the most visual changes. Perhaps, some problems need to be addressed before stable ROM users will start getting the update. That is probably why Google said the update will arrive in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, the tech giant might release Android 12 Beta 5.1 before the stable version starts seeding to address these issues pushing the stable Android 12 release back. Nevertheless, that hasn’t stopped Xiaomi from pushing the build to the global Xiaomi Mi 11i.
Xiaomi Mi 11i is a rebadged Redmi K40 Pro Plus. The device has received the Android 12 based MIUI update in China. It’s currently exclusive to closed beta testers, which is the same as the global release. Recall a couple of days ago, when Xiaomi started recruiting Stable Beta testers for Android 12. That has now been completed, as the global Xiaomi Mi 11i Android 12 update starts seeding.
The update is seeding with a version number – MIUI 12.5.1.0 SKKMIXM. It comes in a 3.4GB package. Of course, it’s a “Stable Beta” build, meaning you might encounter bugs and lags. According to feedback, users are already complaining about that as expected. You might need to perform a factory reset after upgrading your device for a smooth experience. However, make sure to backup your data before proceeding.
Aside from introducing the features of Android 12, which might not be visible because of MIUI, the update has bumped the Android security patch level to September 2021. It supposedly increases system security and stability as well as performance.
