Qualcomm keeps expanding its affordable Snapdragon 600 series offering. The company recently announced a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 SOC built on a 6nm process. That means the processor is power efficient, but it doesn’t support 5G connectivity. Interestingly, it has already featured on some budget phones and given their reviews, the performance is decent.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 SOC is built on a 6nm process, meaning it’s power efficient. Compared to the predecessor, there is about a 20% improvement in the overall battery performance. Interestingly, the processor supports Quick Charge 3.0, which recharges your device in under an hour. We have seen the fast charge on the Redmi Note 11, where it takes 58 minutes to fill a 5000mAh battery.
Meanwhile, the processor uses Qualcomm Kryo 265 cores with up to 2.4GHz speed. There’s an improved Adreno 610 GPU in charge of graphics rendering. On the camera aspect, Snapdragon 680 phones will come equipped with a 12-bit Qualcomm Spectra 346 ISP. It supports up to 32MP single camera, 16 + 16MP dual camera and triple sensors of 13 + 13 + 5MP @ 30fps. Other features of the Snapdragon 680 phones in terms of the camera are Multi-frame Noise reduction, HEIC photo capture, Low light capture, Zero shutter lag, and more.
As seen in recently released SD 680 powered phones – a display with 90Hz refresh rate. The SoC also supports an FHD+ display with up to 10-bit color depth and 12-bit Color Gamut. For connectivity, the processor uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon X11 LTE modem with a peak download speed of 390Mbps and 150Mbps upload speed. It also supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wave 2 with MU-MIMO 11. There’s support for Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS, NavIC, GPS (L1/L5), QZSS, Bluetooth 5.1, USB-C, and NFC.
