It has been three months since Google officially presented the stable Android 12, and went on to release the source to AOSP. Since then, OEMs have been pushing the upgrade to their eligible phones. As expected, Xiaomi is a front runner, and has delivered the update to a handful of devices globally. Interestingly, it’s the mid-range offerings that have been getting the update, which seems to continue. According to recent reports, the company has started testing Android 12 internally for the POCO X3 NFC, Redmi Note 9 Pro / Max, Redmi Note 9S, and POCO M2 Pro.

Xiaomi seems to be leading the race when it’s comes to Android 12 deployment. The fact that they’re rolling out the update with their latest iteration of MIUI makes it even better. Also, they are focusing on mid-range offerings, with last year’s Redmi Note 10 series phones already running the current Android OS. Surprisingly, they’ll deliver Android 12 to the likes of POCO X3 NFC, Redmi Note 9 Pro / Max, Redmi Note 9S, and POCO M2 Pro.

The aforementioned devices were a doubt for the current Android OS, given that they have received the promised Android upgrade. However, it seems Xiaomi has changed its policy and going forward will provide two Android upgrades to its budget offerings. The company has already started testing Android 12 for the Redmi 9, and has now joined by few other popular phones.

Meanwhile, it’s unclear when these phones will receive the update, probably based on MIUI 13, but we are looking at mid 2022. Perhaps, Xiaomi might decide to release the update early, as it’s always their strategy to surprise their phone users with a surprise update. That in mind, we recommend that you follow our tracker page to know when these phones start getting the Android 12-based MIUI 13 update.
