With new phones unveiled almost every month, it becomes complex to manage these phones. Perhaps, the reason phones are dropped from testing MIUI beta updates after some years. As expected, the company has announced that starting from July 2022, some of its phones will stop participating in the closed beta tests organized for Chinese ROM users. This news concerns those running Chinese ROM on the supposed device, but that is not always the case.

Xiaomi phones will stop testing MIUI beta updates

Typically, Xiaomi supports its phones for three years, but they recently adjusted that to four years of support, starting with Xiaomi 11T series. However, those launched before the new policy would only receive three years of security support, during which they’re likely to get two Android OS upgrades. With the phones expected to stop testing MIUI beta updates soon, launched in Q2 of 2020, their security support will likely end soon. That’s probably why the company is dropping them, as there would be six months left from the support period by July 18.

What happens after these phones stop testing MIUI beta updates

With each closed beta update, Xiaomi releases new phones, and hence, these phones will stop getting new features. After July 18, 2022 – the official date they’ll stop getting a beta update, the phones will move to quarterly security support. They’ll receive patch updates every three months, moving forward, including their global models.
