Nothing like a fast and easy way to transfer stuff across two devices and that’s what the Big G is trying to bring to us, the end-users. Fast pair is coming to Wear Os for quick pairing.
Fast pair is a way Google uses to quickly connect Bluetooth headphones to Android smartphones. As Fast Pair is coming to Wear OS, it is presumably a preparation for the upcoming Google Pixel Buds Pro and Google Pixel Watch. This tweak was confirmed from the updates on the Google System update changelog.
The description of the feature is “Fast Pair’s bread and butter”. It saves initially paired earphones to Google Account so they can be accessed on other devices through a system-level notification. Fitbit devices use Fast Pair for their initial setup given the fact that Bluetooth can be quite annoying using it on the small wearable.
Fast pair is coming to Wear OS: how soon?
Even if Fast pair is coming to Wear OS as spotted in the updated Google System Update changelog, it has not been widely rolled out to users. The UI the Fast Pair is going to use has still not been revealed and we haven’t heard an official announcement from the Big G. Google however described the “audio connectivity with wearable” as an already present feature in Fast Pair at CES 2022.
Fast Pair is also expected on Chrome OS and it has also been announced to come to Android and Google Tv as well as select cars. Fast Pair might be for the Pixel Watch but the Pixel Buds Pro page mentions switching connectivity from your phone’s music to video calls on your laptop. In conclusion, Fast Pair should be for both the Pixel Watch and all Wear OS devices as well as other wearables once it’s available.
