The older Samsung Galaxy phones have been receiving updates recently. The Samsung Galaxy S8 series got one as well as the Samsung Galaxy S7 series, both of which brought fixes to GPS issues. Well, the Korean tech giant is rolling out a new update to the Samsung Galaxy S6 series.
Compared to that rolled out on the Samsung Galaxy S8 which is 428MB of storage space, the update rolling out on the Samsung Galaxy S6 series is just about 13MB. Analysing the changelog of the update, we didn’t notice any particular fix as regards GPS (but it should be), however, we did see some tweaks – specifically new/improved features and performance enhancements.
Given the size of the S6 series update, you shouldn’t expect a new Android version to talk less of a security patch, we’re not getting any. That said, it’s still impressive for the Korean tech giant, Samsung, to roll out an update to a smartphone released some years ago.
The S6 series update bears firmware versions G920FXXU6EVG1 and G925FXXU6EVG3 for the regular and edge variants. It’s currently rolling out in Netherlands and Belgium although it’s for the Vodafone carrier in the Netherlands and the unlocked carrier in Belgium – other regions will possibly partake in the coming weeks.
