While using the new filter that was rolled out months ago and going through past photos, users found Old images on Google Photos to be somewhat “corrupted”, by old images on Google Photos, I mean images that are dated back to about 5 years ago.
Corrupted old images on Google Photos?
Corrupted as in the old images show signs of distortion, like hard copy photos that were treated poorly over the years. There is the presence of lines, cracks, white dots and some distorted patches. That said, some of them look even damaged with no specific reason for why it happened that way. Unfortunately, the old images on Google Photos are in the same circumstances across all versions of the app – web, Android and even iOS.
Even more unfortunate, the issue continues after users had downloaded the image – both individual downloads and via Google Takeout – to their smartphones from the cloud. It is also worth noting that it’s only edited images that appear as “corrupted” in the Google Photos app, not the original copies.
Since this was noticed, users have laid complaints, although some people aren’t affected. But given the examples that have surfaced online, no doubt those with the issue are more than those devoid of it.
Meanwhile, 9to5google mentions that they would reach out to the Big G to know what is the issue as regards the “corrupted” photos. Well, till when Google explains what’s going on, we should explore the Real Tone filter, zoom features, and the tweaks to Memories on the app.
