Spatial Audio is an interesting feature which gives you that immersive effect while you’re watching your favourite movies and shows. The feature was made available for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 as well as the Pixel Buds Pro in the December 2022 Pixel Feature Drop via the Android 13 QPR1. However, Google moves further to mention the apps that support Spatial Audio on those devices.
The feature is said to be in the December patch of the Android 13 QPR1 although wasn’t enabled after updating the smartphones which lead 9to5google to mention that the feature might be available in January (via the January patch of the Android 13 QPR1). Well, on to the apps that support Spatial Audio.
According to the Big G, “you can use Spatial Audio on your Pixel phone with movies from Netflix, YouTube, Google TV, and HBOMax that have 5.1 or higher audio tracks. You must wear headphones or earbuds.”
Meanwhile, the Google Pixel Buds Pro can enable the “head tracked Spatial Audio” that will need new firmware to access. When the firmware drops, you can access the head tracking Spatial Audio by navigating to Settings>Connected devices>Pixel Buds Pro>Head tracking.
Having known apps that support Spatial Audio on the Pixel 6, 7 and Pixel Buds Pro, you can move to activate the feature by navigating to Settings>Sounds and Vibration>Spatial Audio.
While using apps that support Spatial Audio
Google gave these tips to take note of while you’re using apps that support Spatial Audio on your Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 as well as the Pixel Buds Pro.
- Use content marked as Dolby audio, 5.1, or Dolby Atmos.
- Keep your phone steady or place it on a stable surface or stand.
