Xiaomi has officially unveiled the much-anticipated MIUI 14. As expected, the latest iteration of MIUI focuses on making the system light, with Xiaomi tagging it Razor Project.
The Razor Project focuses on System Simplification, Application Cleaning and Notification management;
- System simplification: ultra-small firmware, memory usage, and ultra-few applications that cannot be uninstalled;
- Application cleaning: save only one copy of duplicate files, and compress low-frequency applications;
- Notification management: resident notifications can be closed with one swipe, and new app notifications require authorization.”
Xiaomi has equipped MIUI with a new MIUI photon engine. It operates on the “underlying Android Kernels,” which helps third-party app developers to achieve smoother applications. Also, the move will save energy on third-party apps by up to 22%.
Although there aren’t any significant changes to the UI, there are some new visual experiences. With MIUI 14, there have been large and varied icons and pet ornament, making the UI more interesting. Meanwhile, the new icons can be changed to four different sizes, while system apps are now eight.
Xiaomi has also improved its Privacy with MIUI 14. According to the company, there’s now an end-to-end privacy with no data store on the cloud. It spans 30+ system scenarios, including image extraction, recording and translation, and mode.
It might interest you to know that MIUI currently has 564 million users. Perhaps, the reason Xiaomi has invested in improving connectivity across devices running MIUI. There has been a 50% in earphone discovery and a 12% on Mobile TV connection speed. Interestingly, there’s about a 77% increase in speed during picture transmission while streaming.
Also, there is a new family service function. It supports shared cloud storage, shared photo album, and family account, with up to nine people. With MIUI 14, it becomes easy to monitor your kids’ activities on the internet.
Aside from kids, MIUI considers the elderly. It has in-built functionality to check the health data in real-time and actively notify individuals of abnormal heart rate and blood oxygen.
Meanwhile, these features are exclusive to the Chinese branch of MIUI. We hope to see the global unveiling of MIUI 14 next year, which will tell us the features Xiaomi will bring to its global devices.
