While we are applauding Samsung for the Android 13 rollout process and even expecting another version of the Android 13, the OneUI 5.1, the brand is bringing in the latest Galaxy Watch 5 update integrated with a new battery health tool. The update will be rolling out to the Galaxy watch 5 and the Pro version as well – the first update for the smartwatch series.
Features of the latest Galaxy Watch 5 update
The latest Galaxy Watch 5 update will bring One UI 5.1 which is a requirement to enable the new “Camera Controller” feature. This feature allows users to zoom in and out on their paired smartphone by pinch-to-zoom gestures on the watch. Samsung previously announced that this feature will be available starting in February so as such, you can’t try out the wearable update without having a smartphone on the OneUI 5.1.
Meanwhile, there’s another feature integrated into the update – that’s the “Device Diagnostic” tool. Thanks to the tool, the Samsung Members app on your phone allows you to check the battery status and run tests on touchscreen functions and other features of your device. However, the updates for the Samsung Members and Galaxy Wearable apps are not currently available, so it is not clear how extensive this feature is. New Camera Controller feature added
- Change zoom on your phone camera remotely through pinching in or out on the screen, or through rotating the bezel.
- This feature is only supported on flagship models released after Samsung Galaxy S20 or Z Flip running at least One UI 5.1.
Samsung Members
- A new “Connected device diagnostics” option has been added to check the proper performance of the Galaxy Watch’s battery status, touch screen function, etc. on the connected phone.

Stability and reliability
- The stability has been improved.
Alongside the features in this update, the security level of the smartwatch was bumped up as well, thanks to the January security patch. Well, it’s nice to have the latest Galaxy Watch 5 update and the features will probably extend to the Galaxy watch 4 in no time.
