Latest 5G standard support for Pixel 7 tipped to arrive with Android 14
More and more features keep getting discovered in Android 14. Sources have reported that the latest 5G standard support for the Google Pixel 7 will be coming in via the software, Android 14. The 3GPP is in charge of creating mobile broadband standards, with 5G being the most recent emphasis. Standards are made accessible in the form of “releases,” with the Pixel 7 running on the older 3GPP Release 15 compared to other phones on the market today.
Release 15 became the first 5G standard in June 2018. It was followed in July 2020 by Release 16, for which Qualcomm introduced compatibility with the Snapdragon X65 in 2021 and the X70 modem last year – as found on the Galaxy S23. Version 17 came out in June of 2022 and Release 18 is aiming for 2024. Earlier this month, Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon X75 with compatibility for Release 17 and 18.

A Google official claimed on Thursday, in response to a posting in the Android 13 QPR issue tracker, that the Pixel 7 (which utilizes the Exynos 5300 modem) supports Release 15 for “first launch.” According to a brief description of the Exynos 5300 dated December 2022 on Samsung’s website, the modem is “3GPP Release 16-compliant.”- the probable latest 5G standard support.
According to him, the latest 5G standard support for the Google Pixel 7- release 16 – will be made available this fall and by this fall, it might be via the Android 14. Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 is said to have the same 5300 modem as the Tensor G3, while it’s possible that only the newer phone would support it.
