Here’s the crux of the matter: the latest Google Camera 8.8 is rolling out to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro and the head feature from the update is the Night Sight feature. Google advertises Night Sight photographs as having reduced motion blur since exposures may be half as long as previously, which was first introduced for the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. The business attributes the improvement to updates to HDR+ with Bracketing and new ML algorithms to minimize noise.

“And Night Sight now only needs half of the normal exposure tim e to produce beautiful low-light images that are sharper than before.”

Further details on Night Sight via Google Camera 8.8

After updating to the latest Google Camera 8.8, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro customers will see a circle in the bottom-right corner when going to the Night Sight menu. Tapping allows you to choose between two seconds and Max (which goes up to six seconds). The time increment may vary between two and six seconds depending on the shooting conditions.

Google is effectively giving you the option of using quicker Night Sight or a longer exposure period for better image quality.

This functionality was revealed as part of this month’s Feature Drop, even though Android 13 QPR2 is still not available for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, as well as the Pixel 6a. The March update also includes generic enhancements for camera stability and performance in specific scenarios for the Pixel 6, 6, 6 Pro, 7, and 7 Pro. The Pixel 7 series also has improvements in color accuracy or exposure level when utilizing the front camera in specific scenarios.

Google Camera 8.8 has not yet been extensively distributed through the Play Store, however, it is accessible for sideloading(via the link below). For reference, the app was most recently updated in December.
