The stable Android 14 update was supposedly going to start rolling out today, but it seems a late change has it delayed. It seems Google will release the new Android OS update next month, the same day as the Pixel 8 launch.

Stable Android 14 update

A couple of days ago, we reported that Googlers and Android Trusted Testers have started receiving the stable Android 14 update. The firmware version suggested the public will start receiving the update today, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. The latest report hints at a late change that has seen the release delayed till next month.

According to @MishaalRahman, the “source code release of Android 14 has been delayed to next month.” It means the stable Android 14 update won’t be rolling out today. Hence, we expect the September 2023 security patch update for Pixel phones to start rolling out soon, given the latest changes.

Supposedly, Google will publish Vulnerabilities detailed in the Android 14 Security Release Notes on October 4, 2023, which is the likely date of the stable Android 14 update release. Interestingly, Google plans to release its latest update on the day of a product launch. It will be the first time AOSP release and Pixel device launch will happen on the same day.

OEMs are aware of these changes, which seem to have come very late. They were anticipating the release today, but that won’t happen again. We expect the rollout for Pixel phones next month if recent reports are true.
