Following the recent trends, Meta has introduced a paid subscription for Facebook and Instagram. The recent developments are exclusive to those in Europe, and there’s no news on whether other regions will be getting it later.

paid subscription for Facebook and Instagram

With the internet now full of ads, it’s not surprising to see some tech companies introduce a paid subscription for their apps. Meta is the latest to join the trend, and starting next month, those in the EU, EEA, and Switzerland will be able to have an ad-free experience on Facebook and Instagram.

The company confirmed the development saying, “It’s to comply with evolving European regulations.”

“To comply with evolving European regulations, we are introducing a new subscription option in the EU, EEA and Switzerland. In November, we will be offering people who use Facebook or Instagram and reside in these regions the choice to continue using these personalised services for free with ads, or subscribe to stop seeing ads. While people are subscribed, their information will not be used for ads.”

Those subscribing via the web will pay €9.99/month, while those subscribing via Android or iOS will pay €12.99. The single subscription will cover all linked Facebook and Instagram accounts owned by a single user until March 1, 2024. You will have to pay an extra €6/month for any additional account on the web and €8/month on Android or iOS.

Of course, you can continue using these platforms without paying for a subscription, as the ad-supported experience will still be available. According to Meta, the new paid subscription for Facebook and Instagram gives users choices while balancing the requirements of the European regulators.

For now, there’s no news on whether the paid subscription will come to the US and other parts of the globe. We hope to learn about that in the coming weeks, but it’s fair to think Meta will make it available for more regions soon. You can follow us on our social media platforms to know when it becomes available in your region.
