Google is rolling out new features to Android that will prevent unauthorized access to your phone data. Interestingly, the Theft Detection Lock and Offline Device Lock are available for the Xiaomi 14T Pro, while Pixel users are reporting Remote lock only. However, it’s a staged rollout, and will possibly take some time before appearing on all eligible phones.
Google has been working on improving the security of Android phones. With the introduction of the Theft Detection Lock, Google will use your motion sensors to detect when your device has been snatched from you and lock your screen. Offline Device Lock locks your screen when your device has been offline for an extended period, while Remote Lock allows users to lock their phone when they can’t access Find My Device.
These features entered into beta in August, and it seems Google is now rolling out the final build. However, only limited users in the US are reporting getting the new features, but we anticipate wider availability in the coming days.
Meanwhile, only Android phones running Android 10 later supported Theft Detection Lock and Offline Device Lock, while Remote Lock worked on Android 5 and up. We understand most people in the US are seeing these new features, but if you haven’t, we recommend updating Google Play Services.
