The latest Android security vulnerability is another reason to run the latest security patch 

Google is usually the first to release a new security patch, but due to the stable Android 15 release, the October 2024 security patch has yet to start rolling out. However, Samsung is already sending out the update, and you must install it, given the latest security vulnerability on Android phones. 

Most Android phones use a Snapdragon chipset, and according to a new report, some of these devices were hit by a zero-day bug – the vulnerability was unknown to the maker when it was abused. It has been confirmed to be found in many chipsets used in most Android phones across the globe. 

Qualcomm confirmed the vulnerability was found in 64 of their chipset, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is among the processors affected. Interestingly, Snapdragon modems and FastConnect modules used for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity were among them. 

We understand a patch was sent to OEMs last month, and it is called “limited targeted exploitation.” Since the exact date wasn’t disclosed, it is hard to say whether the patch arrived with the September update or the October patch currently rolling out. Nevertheless, ensure your phone is running the latest security update.

It is a serious issue, which is why comprehensive research on who is at fault and who might have targeted this vulnerability is being carried out. Perhaps the hacking targeted a few individuals and not a large group of people since Google and Amnesty International are conducting the investigation.
