Xiaomi has been rolling out the HyperOS 2 based Android 15 update to its flagship phones. Until now, no Redmi or POCO phone has received the update globally, but that changed with the release of the Redmi 12 5G Android 15-based HyperOS 2 update. It is the same phone as the POCO M6 Pro 5G with a few tweaks.
Xiaomi is not shy of releasing the same phone but with a few tweaks under its sub-brands, POCO and Redmi. Redmi 12 5G and POCO M6 Pro 5G arrived in August 2023, running Android 13, but has since upgraded to Android 14. They are the same phone with few tweaks, meaning both can be said to be receiving the HyperOS 2 update that brings a stable Android 15.
Meanwhile, the Redmi 12 5G Android 15-based HyperOS 2 update is exclusive to Indians. It is rolling out with a version number OS2.0.3.0.VMWMIXM, and weighs 4.3 GB. Given the package size, you should expect some features to be missing, especially those limited to flagship phones, like AI.
Aside from the optimizations and new additions, the update has bumped the Android security patch level to November 2024 to increase system security. Of course, the Android version is pushed to 15.
How to download Redmi 12 5G Android 15-based HyperOS 2
As usual, the update is rolling out in batches, meaning few users are getting the build for preview. It will take some days before it becomes available for everyone, hopefully, in the next few days, you can download the update if you haven’t got it. Meanwhile, you can check the updater app, as the Recovery ROM hasn’t been released for manual installation.
