Meta has introduced new features to WhatsApp in the last few months. Some of these new additions are demanding, and as such, don’t work on older phones. Consequently, the company has decided to drop support for these phones as it will help in the development of future additions.
While the iPhone got similar announcements a few months ago, we are focusing on these Android phones that will stop running WhatsApp on January 1, 2025. We understand Android phones running Android KitKat from 10 years ago or older will be denied access to WhatsApp.
You probably think it’s a harsh decision, but with AI now the latest trend, the resources it demands, and the modern hardware needed, it is probably impossible to keep developing WhatsApp builds for these old Android phones. Nevertheless, it’s possible that only a few people still have the affected phones, and you can check them out below.
Android phones will stop running WhatsApp
- Samsung: Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy S4 Mini
- Motorola: Moto G (1st Gen), Razr HD, Moto E 2014
- HTC: One X, One X+, Desire 500, Desire 601
- LG: Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini, L90
- Sony: Xperia Z, Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia V
These are really old phones, and we doubt anyone still uses them as a daily driver. If you do, however, it’s time to back up your WhatsApp data, as you will lose everything early next month if you don’t. It’s time to upgrade to a new device to continue interacting with friends and family on WhatsApp.
