OnePlus has officially announced its flagship phone of 2025, alongside a more affordable OnePlus 13R. Both phones are already available in the global market, and you might be wondering how many years of software support the phones are getting to decide whether you are buying one.
While OnePlus does not match Samsung and Google in terms of software support period, it has made some adjustments. The new devices (OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R) will get six years of support, during which they will receive four generations of Android OS.
According to OnePlus, most people tend to replace their phones within four years, and with that, they will only do four years of Android OS updates. The extra two years will be for security patch updates, meaning if you buy any of the handsets, you will continue getting updates until 2031.
Breaking down OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R software support
Both phones debuted running Android 15, which is based on OxygenOS 15. This means they will get up to Android 19, probably with OxygenOS 19. Additionally, OnePlus will continue rolling out security patch updates after the Android OS support has elapsed for another two years.
While we would like the seven-year support to become a benchmark for smartphone makers, it’s unclear how these phones will hold up after four years. Part availability will be another factor, but hopefully, we will find out in the coming years.
