Google announced adjustments to the Find My Device earlier this month. A new update is now rolling out, which adds location sharing and a people’s tab.

Before the new Find My Device update, the app has only the Device section. It displays all the phones on your network, making it easy to track your device location. Interestingly, you can track people using the app after installing the latest update.
Google has created a “People” section. Individuals can share their location with loved ones from the app. There is an option to see who is sharing their location with you and who can see your location. However, it is currently in beta.
Additionally, the app interface has split into two. At the top is a Map, while the bottom is where you find the Device tab, which includes phones, tablets, smartwatches, headphones, trackers, and the People tab.
It might interest you to know you can perform additional functions from the profile menu. At the top right corner of the app, you can now see blocked users, access Location Sharing settings, sign in as a guest and switch accounts.
How to share location on the Find My Device app
Once you update the app and launch it, everyone sharing their location with you will appear below. To start sharing your location with someone, tap the + icon, select how long you want to share your location, choose the person from the suggested individuals (in-app sharing), or copy the link.

If you are sharing your location with a friend on their way to meet you, you probably want to know their distance from you. To calculate that, you need to grant app location permissions to display a blue dot on your Map.
