Redmi brand General Manager, Lei Weibing, has confirmed that the Redmi Note 8 Pro will run the Helio G90T Chipset recently announced by MediaTek. The chip is gaming-oriented and was able to pull 283,333 points on AnTuTu benchmark score, which was also revealed by the general manager.
The new G90T SoC is built on a 12nm process with powerful Cortex-A76 cores that clocks at 2.05GHz, 6 efficient Cortex-A55 cores with a clock speed of 2.0Ghz. The Mali G76 MP4 GPU has a clock speed of 800MHz and will support 21:9 aspect ratio panels. The display will also support the 90Hz refresh rate and HDR 10 standard.
Helio G90T SoC has a triple ISP with basic support of 48MP single camera. However, the Redmi Note 8 Pro will launch with the latest Samsung ISOCELL GW1 64MP lens, announced some days ago as the main shooter. It’ll be accompanied by an additional two shooters while the fourth lens will be placed alongside the LED Flash.
Apart from the compelling specs, the design will also catch the eyes of many people. It has a design similar to the Redmi K20 series and we expect to final look beat the K20 series when it finally launches. Also, the device is likely to support 18W Quick Charging, NFC, IR Blaster, and can connect to two Wi-Fi networks at the same time.
The Redmi Note 8 Pro will launch on the 29Th August in an event scheduled to be held in China. However, even without being officially announced yet, it already has a competitor, talking about the Realme 5 Pro.
The Realme 5 Pro is yet to be released and is likely to come at the same time with the Redmi Note 8 Pro. But while the former has a 48MP lens as the main cam, the latter will debut with the latest GW1 64MP lens from Samsung. Though both phones will sport Quad camera, the Redmi Note 8 Pro will outperform in that aspect considering that the sensor is new and with large pixel size.
About the processor, reviews have shown that even with higher clock speed, there won’t be a significant difference in performance between the SD 712 and Helio G90T. Even the Redmi Note 8 Pro with G90T SoC is expected to deliver peak performance since it’ll be equipped with vapor cooling that will help disseminate heat.
The battery capacity of Realme 5 Pro is 4035mAh against 4500mAh rumored to feature in Redmi Note 8 Pro. Nonetheless, both devices will deliver maximum power due to the efficient SoC, but many people will go for numbers, which is where Redmi Note 8 Pro has the upper hand. Both devices will retain the 3.5mm headphone jack while only the Redmi Note 8 Pro will feature NFC and IR Blaster.
Pricing will also be a deciding factor for buyers, and while the Realme 5 Pro is expected to sell at 14,000INR ($195), we’re yet to know the pricing for the Redmi Note 8 Pro. But since Redmi Note 7 Pro, which is the predecessor currently sales at $196 (6/128GB), we expect the successor to be between $170 to $200 for the base version.
For Xiaomi to retain the No.1 spot as Indian most selling smartphone brand, it has to beat the Realme. We expect the company to kill any competition it has with Realme when the Redmi Note 8 Pro finally goes official, from the specs to the pricing.
