It hasn’t been two months since the official presentation of MIUI 12.5. After the unveiling, those with successful beta applications started receiving the beta build. That has been going on for a while, and it seems each subsequent build brings with it new features. A couple of days ago, we detailed the new haptic feedback system and a new way to switch between the control center and notification panel. And as expected, a current MIUI 12.5 closed beta build adds another feature, dubbed AI smart charging.
The new AI smart charging feature is a way to preserve battery life. With the AI Integrated into the charging system, the system will study your usage and charging pattern. It will help the system predict correctly, your charging habit, and as such, will charge slower when the device is not in use. For example, if you charge at night, the charging will be slower, and that way, your battery is preserved and will probably last longer.
Of course, only beta group members have received the new AI smart charging feature. It’ll probably arrive on more phones, with the stable rollout expected to start in April. However, its only flagship Xiaomi phones that are likely to receive the new feature, given their flagship chip, build, and premium specs.

That said, we will keep a close look at the new AI smart charging feature. We’ll report back here when Xiaomi starts pushing it to stable ROM users, and possibly “global users” as well. Yes, Xiaomi has this affection towards the Chinese ROM users. Most times, the best features are only available in Chinese ROM, but we hope that shouldn’t be the case this time.
