Xiaomi is currently pushing a new update for the Redmi Note 8 units they sold in Europe. It’s a stable release but might be seen as another “underwhelming” release because it sans the much-anticipated Android 11. The latest update is essentially a security patch build to improve the security of the device. And being a stable release means the rollout has been released for the public. Hence, expect to receive the new stable Redmi Note 8 update in Europe via OTA in the coming days.
The new update has a software designation, MIUI 12.0.6.0 QCOEUXM. It bumps the Android security patch level to April 2021 and increased system security. Of course, it optimized performance while preparing the device for the Android 11 upgrade. Unfortunately, it’s still based on Android 10, although the Chinese variants are on the latest OS.
According to our previous report, Xiaomi has released the stable MIUI 12.5 stable build to internal testers. But at this time, it’s unclear when the build will be stable enough for public rollout. Also, we don’t know if the update will bring Android 11 to the global users, given the lack of communication from Xiaomi. However, we believe the global users will receive the upgrades separately, considering that the Chinese users are on a new OS already.
That said, you should follow our tracker to be notified when the update is available for global users. Meanwhile, if you’re running the EU ROM on your Redmi Note 8, you should go to the Updater App to scan for the update.
