Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 series has remained in Android 11 since their debut, albeit being the first to receive the stable MIUI 13 update. The Tablets started testing Android 12 a couple of months ago, but things came to a halt after Google announced Android 12L for big-screen devices. Perhaps, Xiaomi wants to leverage the new OS for its Tablets as they start testing Android 12 for Mi Pad 5 series again.
The latest MIUI closed beta release Note suggests that Xiaomi will commence testing Android 12 for its Tablets again. From May 23, the company will stop internal beta testing of the devices based on Android 11 as it prepares to upgrade them to Android 12.
“Due to the upgrade of Android 12, Mi Pad 5 Pro 5G, Mi Pad 5 Pro, and Mi Pad 5 will be suspended from May 23, 2022. The closed beta will be released.”
While that’s good news, it will take weeks, perhaps months, before Android 12 for Mi Pad 5 series arrives on the stable channel. From the reports, the build is still on internal testing and hasn’t made it to the closed beta channel yet. And considering all the time involved, we expect the build to be ready in the coming months.
We will be keeping tabs on the development to let you know when the update arrives on the beta channel. That would mean a few weeks away from seeding to everyone.
