Although most OEMs are yet to complete the Android 11 rollout, Google is already making plans for the successor. The first developer preview of Android 12 is expected to arrive later this month, and according to multiple sources, it will bring optimized privacy, improved appearance, and other functions. We have also seen the look of the next Android OS, thanks to the Android 12 extracted wallpapers, and you can check that here. And while we wait on the first developer preview, alleged features of the Android 12 keep surfacing. This time, via Gizchina, Android 12 might bring an enhanced auto-rotate feature.
Of course, Android phones have had the auto-rotate features for years now, but it seems Google wants to improve it. According to our source, all Android 12 eligible phones will eventually receive the enhanced auto-rotate feature. However, as usual, it will first arrive for the Google Pixel phone before making its way to other OEM gadgets.
How the enhanced Auto-rotate feature will work
Google will optimize the auto-rotate feature to enhance the user’s experience. For instance, if a user runs Android 12, with the auto-rotate feature enabled, the device will adjust the screen orientation depending on his/her position. Google is said to achieve this with the help of the front-facing camera. The camera will detect when the user is looking at the screen and what position the head is turned. Depending on the position, details on the screen might take a landscape orientation or remain in portrait mode. And for privacy, the camera will only perform its functions on your device. Your data won’t be saved or sent anywhere.
Meanwhile, this an early leak, and hence, we don’t know exactly how that will work. But according to some sources, the tech behind the new auto-rotate feature is the simplified version of face-shape-recognition, used in Snapchat and Google Duo. Hopefully, we’ll learn about it and more when the company releases the first developer preview of the Android 12 in the coming days.
