Google is now rolling out the Android 13 beta 3 updates to eligible Pixel users. The update is a follow-up to the build that arrived during the I/O event. With the new update, Google has reached Android 13 platform stability – the first step towards the general release.
The latest Android 13 beta 3 update might not be feature-riched, but it means a major milestone for the stable Android 13 release. With the API level 33 SDK and NDK APIs now final, developers can “start final compatibility testing for apps, SDKs, and libraries.”. They’re also expected to publish alpha and beta tracks in the Play Store.
“This is the time to begin final testing and development work needed to ensure that a compatible version of your app will be ready for users at the final release to the ecosystem. Android 13 will provide a standard API level at this time.”
Developers are to make sure apps hide sensitive data like passwords and payment information as part of Android 13 behavior changes. Also, they should focus on richer media controls, new permission covering media file access, body sensors, and Wi-Fi.
Meanwhile, for Android smartphone users, it means Android 13 has taken shape. There won’t be any major changes to the final version that’ll arrive later in the year. Unfortunately, Google didn’t say when stable Android 13 will be official, but we are hoping for August or September.
The update is available for Google Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro. Those enrolled in the Beta test will get the OTA soon, while you can download the live image and flash it manually. Remember to use the Android Beta Feedback app to log problems.
