Google is yet to release the stable Android 14 update, and while we wait, the company has started rolling out the Android 14 Quarterly Platform Release. It’s exclusive to Android 14 beta testers, meaning Google is yet to complete testing of the latest Android OS.
The Quarterly Platform Release, unlike the monthly security patch, brings significant new features. Google uses the release to introduce new features that can’t wait for the next Android OS release, but since Android 14 isn’t rolling out for everyone yet, we can count the latest additions as part of the stable Android 14 release.
The update is rolling out with a firmware version U1B1.230908.003 and comes with the September 2023 security patch. It’s available for eligible Pixel phones, excluding the Pixel 4 5G and Pixel 5. Both phones will receive Android 14 as their last major Android OS upgrade, and hence, they won’t be receiving the Quarterly updates.

- Large screen user per-app overrides
- “Device original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) apply overrides to selected apps on specific large screen devices. Android 14 QPR1 introduces user overrides, which enable users to apply overrides to apps through device settings.”
