Google has made a few announcements in the last few hours. The I/O 2025 event seems to focus on AI, which is not surprising. However, we have some Android news, although the stable Android 16 isn’t rolling out yet. Beta testers can install the first Android 16 QPR1 beta 1 build, a preview of the first Quarterly release.

The first Android 16 QPR will roll out in September. As usual, beta testers will preview the ROM before the stable rollout commences in the coming weeks. Hence, we will get to know what the update is coming with, and it’s obvious Material 3 Expressive Design will be at the forefront.
Details of Android 16 QPR1 beta 1 update
Google is rolling out the update with version number BP31.250502.008. It is available for beta testers. Supported devices include the Pixel 6 and later versions. Aside from introducing all the expected features, the May 2025 security patch enhances security and performance.
Depending on your device, the update size will vary. We understand it weighs 574 MB for Pixel 9 users. However, if you want to install the stable Android 16 when it starts rolling out, opt up from google.com/Android/beta before installing the QPR1 Beta 1 update.
You will get a downgrade OTA notification. Ignore the upgrade if you do not want to wipe your device. You will keep ignoring future OTA until Google releases the stable Android 16. We expect the rollout to start next month.
If you encounter any problems while running the build, use the Android Beta Feedback app available on Pixel phones to submit it. It can be accessed from the app drawer or Quick Settings to file bugs in the Google issue tracker. There is the option to use the Android Beta community on Reddit.
