Google has officially confirmed the release of the Android 16 stable update. It comes after Apple’s iOS 26 announcement. Eligible Pixel phones will start getting the update later today.

There have been rumors about the official release of the Android 16 stable update. We know the build will arrive this month, but only a few people have confirmed the exact date. Google has now confirmed the release date through its Android Developer account on Twitter (X).
Depending on your time zone, the announcement via the X post might be early in the morning or overnight. The Post says “Almost time for the Android 16 final release, see you back here tomorrow.
Usually, Google announces the release of a new OS with a cryptic message, but it is different this time. We know the update will start seeding for eligible users later today. One of the big changes everyone is waiting for is the Material 3 Expressive Design. Unfortunately, it will be coming later in the year with the Android 16 QPR1 stable build.

We expect to learn about the complete changes when the update starts rolling out, but we have an idea. Thanks to the Developer Previews and Beta releases. Android 16 will have health metrics, Live Activities for select applications, Advanced Protection, quick Google Wallet controls, optimizations, and bug fixes.
Google will introduce additional features with Android 16 QPR1. The update is currently in beta phase and will arrive for eligible users in the coming month. We expect to see the Material 3 Expressive Design when the update becomes available.
