It seems some of these features are already rolling out with the latest Android Auto 11.1 beta update. As usual, the update is exclusive to beta users, with the stable release expected in the coming days.
Features announced for Android Auto
Google announced it is bringing some much-anticipated features to cars with Android Auto integration. These include real-time battery information with Google Maps and the ability to plan trips on your phone and send Google Maps to your car. Also, new apps like Chrome browser, PBS KIDS, Crunchyroll, and the Weather Channel app will be released for Android Auto users.
Real-time battery information
Google plans to bring real-time battery information into the Android Auto navigation system. The feature will soon arrive on Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lighting. With the integration, Google aims to provide EV car users with estimated battery levels, suggest charging stops, and estimate charging duration.
Planning trips with Google Maps on Android Auto
Perhaps, with Android Auto 11.1 Beta, Google brings support for planning trips. The idea is to plan your trips using Google Maps on your phone and send it to your Car with built-in Google. It will be available for Android and iOS users to make moving from planning to navigation easy.
New Apps for Android Auto
Select Polestar and Volvo Cars are currently testing the Chrome browser app. Google plans to expand the availability in the future, while PBS KIDS and Crunchyroll are now available for select cars. Android Auto users will get the Weather Channel app to assist drivers with up-to-date weather conditions, hourly forecasts, alerting, and “Trip View” radar. These will be accessible from the dashboard for easy control.
Digital car key
Introduced months ago, Google is expanding its availability. Select Vivo cars are getting the feature which lets you unlock, lock, and start your car with supported Android phones. Also, you can securely share keys with friends and family on Android and iOS.
Aside from the above features, the Android Auto 11.1 beta update brought new additions. With the latest update, Google is expanding “use your phone’s wallpaper on Android Auto” to more users. Also, Google seems to have revamped the App icon on Android Auto to match your device’s app icon.
