Google is now rolling out the Android Auto 11.7 stable update to the public. We understand there was no beta test for the latest rollout, and given all the issues reported by users in the past, we recommend waiting for feedback before installing the update. Also, you could be forced to stick with Google Maps for navigation.
Android Auto has received loads of updates, and each time, few or no new features are spotted. These updates focus on bug fixes and system performance, but the latest Android Auto 11.7 stable update might have brought a controversial change.
According to reports, when using Google Assistant to send a navigation command on Android Auto 11.7, the command is processed directly, ignoring the navigation app running on the screen. The commands are sent to Google Maps, closing the navigation app active on your infotainment screen.
With the new development, it will not be possible to use a third-party navigation app on Android Auto. However, reports suggest the issue might be a bug, considering the update didn’t arrive on the beta channel before seeding for the public.
Also, the update seems to work fine for some people, as they can stick with whichever navigation app they choose. While we believe the issue could be device-exclusive, Google might just be rolling out the new changes in phase. Usually, new features arrive in batches, and we won’t be surprised if more people start reporting it in the future.
