Although the beta build was only released to beta testers a couple of days ago, Google is now seeding the stable build. Everyone can download the update, and while it doesn’t come with a changelog, new reports suggest Google is working on new features to be introduced later.
Android Auto doesn’t come with a changelog, so it’s hard to say what’s new with any version. We have to wait for beta testers to tell us what they notice, and it seems the Android Auto 12.8 stable update showed signs of a future addition.
Currently, Google is working on integrating radio into the Android Auto UI. It will allow drivers to listen to their favorite Radio station without exiting the app, making it more convenient. Unfortunately, we don’t know how Google plans to do that, but we hope to find out when they start rolling it out in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, the latest addition coming to Android Auto will allow it access to your external drive, like USB. Of course, people still store music on USB instead of using Spotify. The upcoming feature will allow them to enjoy songs on their drive without leaving Android Auto UI, which is what you do if you want to play music from your USB drive.
We don’t know when Google will introduce these features to the public. It depends on how the testing is progressing. Hopefully, we will see them on a stable channel before the end of this year. Meanwhile, when they are ready to start rolling out, beta testers will get it before pushing it to more people.
The Android Auto 12.8 stable is just a normal upgrade, as there are no new features. It’s an update that targets bugs and improves system performance. We recorded installing the update when prompted or use the link below to access the APK file.

Google is rolling out the update via the Play Store. It’s available for everyone running Android 8 and later. Of course, you can side-load the APK file from here. Remember you can always uninstall the update if you experience any major software issues.
