Google has released the Android Auto 14.7 beta update. It has been only a few days since the last build was made available for everyone. While the latest build seems to focus on performance and bug fixes, it hints at the release of the light theme option.
It is now a tradition for a new Android Auto update to roll out every few days. These releases are mostly for bug fixes and system improvement, but oftentimes, they hint at upcoming features. And thanks to folks at 9to5Google, they have been able to spot the light theme option.
We understand Google has been working on the Light Theme in Android Auto since 2023. The tech giant has yet to release it, but new evidence suggests they are moving in that direction. There has been progress in the last months, and the company showed it off during the I/O event last month. With the new report, the company is moving towards the public release.
For the first time, the Android Auto 14.7 beta shows a string that highlights light mode and a new “Theme” section in the Settings. There is an “Automatic” option, confirming the two themes can swamp based on the time of day and/or the lighting condition of your vehicle.

If you are wondering how the Light Theme will work, folks at Android Authority managed to activate it in the latest version. They showed new menus on the vehicle’s display and on the Android Auto phone app. It seems to replace the day/night theme setting for Google Maps.
Of course, you might want to enable the light theme after installing the Android Auto 14.7 APK but it is not live by default. We do not know when it will become available, but we hope soon. Perhaps, it’s part of the next Android Feature Drop arriving in September.
