Here’s the crux of the matter: there are speculations that the April 2023 security patch update for Google Pixel smartphones has started rolling out although we’re not in April.
You may recall that the March security update and the March Feature Drop for most eligible Pixel devices arrived one week late on March 13th, rather than the planned date of March 6th.
Unfortunately, Pixel 6 series devices have to wait until March 20th to get the newest security fixes and new features. Around this time, an incredibly significant issue in Samsung’s Exynos modems rendered the Pixel 6 series in dire need of the March security update that corrected the problem.
While some Verizon Pixel 6 series owners have yet to receive the March update, a Reddit poster with a Pixel 5 claims to have gotten the April security update today, March 27th, and have submitted a screenshot as proof. The screenshot demonstrates that the Redditor’s smartphone has the April 2023 security patch installed.
TQ2A.230405.003 is the build number. Google usually distributes monthly updates on the first Monday of each month, so the next day to look for one is April 3rd. However, one Reddit member reported that his Pixel had just got the March security update.
Check for the April 2023 security patch update
To check if the April 2023 security patch update is available, navigate to your Settings, Software Updates, and then download and install. If you’re hesitant, keep in mind that certain Samsung phones received the upcoming month’s security update before the calendar flipped to the new month, meaning they got it before eligible Pixels.
Google’s developer page, on the other hand, lists the March 2023 security update as the most recent build accessible for Pixel phones.
