You can imagine the impossibilities that can be explored by the 5G and(although the 6G is set to be available in a few years from now), reports have it that China has made some success in the 6G development and the connectivity is set to be better than the 5G.
The Chinese firm, ZTE, alongside the country’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, carried out some tests on several pieces of tech that are said to be important to the 6G development. Here is the breakdown of the tests ZTE was involved in :
- 6G distributed autonomous network and digital twin network concept sample
- 6G computing power network key tech concept sample
- 6G terahertz key tech concept sample
- 6G communication perception integration key tech concept sample
- 6G intelligent metasurface tech concept sample
And according to reports, the test results were good. However, we think it’s too early to compare the 6G with the 5G as we are yet to live with 5G for a while. Back to the 6G development, the US and UK were making moves toward this path. Although the brands like ZTE and Huawei are banned in the US, they have to turn to Ericsson and Nokia. Fortunately, Ericsson is ready to invest millions of pounds in the 6G development in the UK.
But taking the lead in this technology path isn’t for the US or the UK anymore as according to the China National Intellectual Property Administration, China has 35 percent of the patents related to 6G development with the US coming in second place with 18 percent.
6G development: expected launch
Even as the 6G development is gaining a bit of momentum, the commercial launch might be sometime in 2030, according to Ericsson. Meanwhile, some had predicted the speed of the 6G to be around 1 terabit per second making it 1000 times faster than the 1 gigabit per second present in the 5G mmwave.
As to how Ericsson plans to execute the ten-year 6G plan, the CEO of Ericsson UK said “We will establish a team of 20 high-level researchers in the U.K., and will also provide funding for students. The initial focus will be on 6G network and hardware security.”
Well, 6G development has kick-started and given what is expected from the 5G, we’re in for a whole lot with the 6G – as the days go by, China, the US and the UK will be a step closer in the 6G development and we’re a step closer to faster internet speeds.
