Months ago, we talked about the WhatsApp companion mode and also mentioned that its availability is quite limited. The WhatsApp companion mode was limited to those on the beta platform with the hope of it getting to more users in the coming weeks. Well, sources have reported the feature’s expansion which then allows more users to access it.
It’s not a new thing for users to try linking their apps to other smartphones or put more precisely, enabling the app’s capabilities on other devices – like the desktop and PC. To connect your WhatsApp to a secondary device, you have to go through a process that involves you scanning a QR code.
The new update to Whatsapp allows for this – linking your smartphone to a secondary device. According to source, the WhatsApp companion mode can allow linking up to four devices (how amazing) – although with a shortcoming. The features of Whatsapp (that is, the full features) will not be accessed on secondary devices.
But does it matter? I mean, you can access your chats and chat archive, what else do you need Whatsapp on a secondary device for?
Use WhatsApp companion mode
To use the WhatsApp companion mode, you have to ensure that the primary device as well as the secondary device has the latest update installed. The latest update is version 2.23.8.2.
Unfortunately, the update is currently available for just Android devices and iOS devices will have to be a little patient but(well, of course) it will be available in the coming weeks. Lastly, it is worth noting that Whatsapp still guarantees that your chats are encrypted even when you link to your secondary device. So you can reach out to your family, friends, and colleagues without any fear of privacy breach.
