The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 plus was just released last month and it was an upgrade from the normal 8 Gen 1 carrying a 10 percent increase in CPU performance, and a 30 percent increase in power efficiency among some other major upgrades. However, while most tech enthusiasts take the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 plus as a very amazing processor, a lot is still expected for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
According to sources, the mass production of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor is set to begin in Q4 2022, which is a bit early as we just got the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 plus. The reports of the CPU configuration of the processor were from Weibo and it seems the features are something quite intriguing.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 configuration
According to reports from Weibo, Digital Chat station to be precise, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is equipped with a Cortex-X3 core, two cortex-A720 cores, two cortex-A710 cores, alongside three Cortex-A510 cores. The results of the initial efficiency tests from notebookchecknet were fairly good, courtesy of the Cortex-X3 core.
The prime Cortex-X3 core will however take a toll on the battery life but it’s no doubt that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 brings some unique abilities at least on paper. Furthermore, the chipset is going to be built on TMSC’S 4nm node process similar to what’s seen on the 8 Gen 1 plus.
A tweak worth noticing is the fact that Qualcomm decides to cut down the number of efficiency cores in contrast with the four cores seen in most processors. Meanwhile, speaking of GPU, it’s getting an Adreno 740 GPU which is an upgrade from the Adreno 730. The feats of the soon-to-debut chipset seem to throw the other competitors off balance at least on paper, but we will keep an eye out for more tweaks till its expected debut.
