There have been a lot of ups and downs as regards the premium Pixel 6 series, especially the Face unlock for the Google Pixel 6 Pro. By that we mean, a lot of users have been getting persistent issues like fingerprint and battery drain problems and then on the good side, the Big G has disbursed fixes and even the June feature drop, although some users say the issues remain.
The Face Unlock for the Google Pixel 6 Pro has been a concern of most Pixel 6 Pro users worldwide. We got to see Soli or Face Unlock on the Pixel 4 and 4 XL which was enhanced by Google’s flood illuminator, dot projector, and IR cameras making the face unlock sensor very active, opening your phone when you reach out to it.
Sadly, the Soli or Face Unlock wasn’t available on the Pixel 5 series but many Google Pixel users expected its debut in the Pixel 6 lineup. While there weren’t any announcements for users to expect Face unlock for Google pixel 6 Pro, a leak just before the debut said otherwise, mentioning that we might get to see “Fingerprint and Face Unlock”.
Some months back, sources related that the launch of Face unlock for the Pixel 6 is very close, however, it wouldn’t be coming in on the vanilla version, just the pro model. The reason for this might be the difference in their camera hardware. The Pro variant has a better enhanced front camera with the DPAF from Sony IMX663.
DPAF, dual Pixel auto focusing, is very useful in Portrait mode, and coupled with the Tensor’s chipset prowess, one could wonder why we aren’t getting the Face Unlock for the Google Pixel 6 Pro given these already present hardware and software components.
Is the Face Unlock for the Google Pixel 6 Pro coming any sooner?
Face Unlock for the Google Pixel 6 Pro didn’t make its way to the smartphone via the June feature drop. However, 9to5google’s insight team spotted a face unlock boost in the changelog, probably to enhance the speed and accuracy if the face unlock is available.
Still thinking about what is delaying the feature since all the components are present, it could be that the Big G is worried about battery drain and accuracy since Google Pixel users suffer a less accurate fingerprint and a tremendous battery drain.
Even as we await the feature coming to the Pixel 6 Pro, the Pixel 7 still has a lot of anticipation following its debut. With the sleek camera features already present in the smartphone, most tech enthusiasts are optimistic about seeing the Face unlock on the Pixel 7 Pro.
That said, the company had earlier considered bringing in the Face Unlock for the Google Pixel 6 Pro via a feature drop so we might still get to see it after the Pixel 7 series debut since the smartphone has the required abilities.
