February 2023 security patch arrives on Galaxy Note 9

Samsung Galaxy Note 9

It’s good to know that Samsung hasn’t left older phones in the lurch even in the heat of the recent updates rolling out plus the announcement of the new flagship. Galaxy Note 9 is receiving the February 2023 security patch.

The Note 9, is considered by many users to be the last true Note as Samsung began removing (sometimes overhyped) features such as a headphone jack, with the 10 series. It was removed from the list of Samsung smartphones still eligible for updates six months ago, as was expected as the Note 9 completed four years in the market in the second half of last year.

But we weren’t expecting Samsung to offer a fresh update for the Galaxy Note 9 so soon after the phone was slated to cease getting upgrades. Yeah, Samsung does occasionally offer random updates for old devices, usually when a severe issue is discovered.

In terms of the changelog, your device will be upgraded to the February 2023 security patch, and that’s about it. Nevertheless, it appears that the update began trickling out late last month but has just now reached the United Kingdom and Ireland. For the time being, users in the United Kingdom and Ireland should be able to download the update (firmware version N960FXXSAFWB3). We cannot guarantee that the update will be reaching other parts of the world – we can only be hopeful.

If you’re using the Note 9 in the UK or Ireland, you can navigate to Settings, Software Updates, and then download and install. As mentioned earlier, the update might not reach other parts of the world. That said, you should get a notification when it’s available.
