The Google Play system update is not the most consistent one, as many phones are still in the November build, while the January version has already been announced. The latter is rolling out for select Android users, while the February 2025 Google Play system update has allegedly arrived for a Pixel device.


Google Play system update is essential for the Android system to continue functioning properly. A new version is announced monthly, but it ends up taking ages before arriving for eligible phones. Many Android phones, including Pixels, are still running the November 1 version, albeit some users claim to be running the February release.
Focusing on the January 2025 Google Play system update, the rollout seems to be rolling out for Samsung users. We are yet to see Pixel phone users report a new update, but that should not happen soon.
The current release has updated the Play Store, while the Play Protect has been updated for better support for Advanced Protection. Fixes for device connection issues while introducing a new feature for casting to devices with updated Terms of Service. All devices running Android 15 now support an improved tap-to-pay.
The update supports using local currency for purchases in some African countries, including Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, and Senegal. It also improves search results and adds VPN badges for verified apps.
How to download the January / February 2025 Google Play system update
The update seems to be rolling out for Galaxy phones, which you can install via Settings>>Security & Privacy>>Updates>>Google Play system update. Of course, you can check for the release on your Pixel phone by following the same steps above, but instead of Updates, you will tap System & updates.
