Xiaomi might be struggling to address all the issues affecting its MIUI Android skin, but they are not afraid of introducing new features. They recently brought new and optimized Automated Tasks it has been testing for some weeks to the closed beta testers in China. And going by a recent report, the same build also brought what’s called a front camera assistant.
The new camera assistant is entirely new as it’s the first time we are seeing something like that. Perhaps, Xiaomi wants to make it possible for its smartphone users to make video calls at night or in darkness. According to reports, the new front camera assistant will allow users to make calls in darkness. The feature uses a fill light, and hence, the user’s face is illuminated. There’s also an option to activate beauty mode to perfect the image, and with the function enabled, the skin is softened, eyes are enlarged and others.
Unfortunately, the new front camera assistant supports WeChat video calls only. That means it’s limited to closed beta testers in China. However, we expect the feature to arrive on stable ROM in the coming weeks, and hopefully, the global users will get it as well. And whether Xiaomi will enable it on other social media apps, there’s currently no information.
Nevertheless, if Xiaomi ever brings the function to global ROM, it will support video calls on social media apps. That said, we will be keeping a tab on the development, and hopefully, we might see the camera assistant on a global stable ROM in the coming weeks/months.
