Smartphone companies have been boosting their Android OS support periods. Google phones are now eligible for seven years of support, the same as Samsung phones. While mid-range phones won’t be supported for the same period, Samsung is promising six years of OS support.
A couple of weeks ago, Samsung confirmed the Galaxy A16 5G will be supported for six years. The Korean company has extended the support period to the more affordable Galaxy A16 4G. Perhaps all mid-range Samsung phones will not get a guaranteed six generations of Android.
Since the Galaxy A16 4G debuted with a stable Android 14 update, it will receive up to Android 20. We expect Samsung to release monthly security patch updates, but we have seen the company move to Quarterly updates for its Tablets after promising an extended support period.
Well, it will be interesting to see how long Samsung will support these phones and how they will hold up after a few years. Only time will tell, and hopefully, the company will keep its promise.
If you want to purchase the Galaxy A16 4G, it has a 6.67-inch Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The MediaTek Helio G99, paired with 4 GB and 128 GB storage, powers the device. You get a 5000mAh battery with 25W wired charging support.
For optics, the device uses a 50 MP + 2 MP rear camera sensor with a single 13 MP front lens. There’s a fingerprint reader, dual 4G SIM slot, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, USB-C, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
