Technology keeps advancing every day and then we see the effect on most of the devices released by Android OEMs and Apple products (both smartphones and wearables). The Galaxy Watch 5 adds menstrual cycle prediction using skin temperature. This feature will be arriving via an update, which was announced back in February. The update will be available on the Galaxy Watch 5 in eligible countries of which the US isn’t left out.
The new tracking is the result of a collaboration between Samsung and Natural Cycles, an app that utilizes skin temperature to correctly determine what stage of the cycle you’re in. To obtain an accurate measurement, though, you should usually take a temperature right after waking up. This can be done automatically with the Galaxy Watch 5–which can already track your sleep–and its infrared temperature sensor.
The Galaxy Watch 5 will be able to anticipate ovulation and the start of your next period based on this data and your own calendar-based cycle tracking inputs. More significantly, Samsung claims that this information is securely encrypted and is only retained on your smartphone. After checks, there might be some symptoms and then suggestions will follow.
Suggestions will be based on ways to avoid unwanted stress. For instance, you can get suggestions like “scheduling a day to relax to address fatigue or exercising gently to relieve premenstrual pelvic pain.”
Use the menstrual cycle prediction on your Galaxy Watch 5
First off, you’ll have to provide a calendar of your most current cycle. Then move over to Settings and to a new section that says “Predict period with skin temp”. This setting will be available for the wearables that have version 6.22 of the Samsung Health app.
