Samsung has unveiled its latest wearable, the Galaxy Watch 6 series, taking a significant leap forward in terms of features and functionality compared to its predecessor. Let’s explore the official features of these impressive pieces of tech
Official features of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic
The Galaxy Watch 6 offers notable improvements over its predecessor, the Watch 5, while the simpler and more affordable member of the series forgoes the rotating bezel. However, it still retains all the additional functions that make it a compelling choice.
The new wearables come in two sizes – 44mm and 40mm, with the display size slightly larger than before, thanks to a narrower bezel. The 44mm variant features a 1.5″ display, while the 40mm variant boasts a 1.3″ display. On the other hand, the Watch 6 Classic retains the same screen sizes but offers the convenience of a rotating bezel. All wearables feature Super AMOLED displays with full-color AOD and sapphire crystal protection.
Powering these wearables is the latest Exynos W930 processor, which brings notable improvements to performance. The dual-core CPU’s clock speed has been increased by 18% to 1.4 GHz, and the RAM has been boosted by 33% to 2GB, with internal storage now at 16GB.
Samsung has made significant advancements in the software department, especially in terms of health tracking capabilities. The Watch 6 series now provides more in-depth sleep insights, thanks to the addition of skin temperature sensors and a heart rate monitor. Samsung is proud to offer the most comprehensive health tracking suite, which includes ECG, heart rate and HR alerts, blood pressure monitoring, menstrual cycle prediction, and fall detection. Additionally, the Watch 6 supports Samsung Wallet and serves as a remote camera shutter and a tool to locate the owner’s phone using an embedded map. Thanks to Samsung’s WearOS, the wearables are compatible with Google and third-party apps.
In terms of battery life, the Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic pack 425mAh batteries for the larger sizes (44mm vanilla or 47mm Classic) and 300mAh batteries for the smaller versions (40mm vanilla and 43mm Classic). Both devices are IP68 certified, making them water-resistant up to 50m (5ATM), and they are MIL-STD-810H rated for added durability.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 comes in a range of sizes and colors, including graphite (both sizes), silver (44mm only), and gold (40mm only). The prices start from £289/$299 and go up to £369/$329 for the bigger variant with LTE support. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Classic is available in two colors – black and silver. The prices for the Classic start from £369/$399 and go up to £459/$429 for the premium model. Pre-orders have already begun on July 26, and the watches will be available for purchase on August 11.
With the Galaxy Watch 6 series, Samsung is setting new standards in the wearable technology landscape, offering a diverse range of features and enhanced health tracking capabilities that cater to a wide array of users’ needs and preferences.
