Google has started rolling out Wear OS 5.1 based on Android 15 for smartwatches. The update is currently exclusive to Pixel Watches. Unfortunately, there’s no information about when or which Galaxy Watch models will get the update. Given the delays in releasing the stable Android 15-based One UI 7 update, we might wait a long time.

Android 15-based WearOS 5.1 is rolling out for the Google Pixel Watch, Pixel Watch 2, and Watch 3. They are the first wearables to start getting the update, and we expect Samsung Galaxy Watches and other running Wear OS to get the upgrade soon.
The beta version of Wear OS 5.1 arrived in November last year. Google showcased two major features during the preview phase, which are Credentials Manager and the ability to play media via a smartwatch’s built-in speakers. The former makes it easy to sign into apps and services by saving PINs, passwords, Passkeys, and federated identity authentication.
With the March 2025 Feature Drop for Pixel Watches based on WearOS 5.1, Google introduced additional features. They include menstrual health support, media control upgrades, and step count enhancement. Since these features didn’t roll out with the Wear OS 5.1, it’s unknown if they are exclusive to Pixel Watches.
Unfortunately, Galaxy Watches is yet to start getting the Wear OS 5.1 update, but some of the features are available for them. Menstrual health tracking. Media control upgrades make it easy to “control types based on the content being played (such as Podcasts within YouTube music),” step count now includes a new algorithm to count steps when walking/running for better accuracy.

According to reports, Samsung will release Wear Os 5.1 based on One UI 6.5 Watch six Galaxy Watch models. They include Galaxy Watch 4, Galaxy Watch 5, Galaxy Watch 6, Galaxy Watch 7, Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch FE.
Unfortunately, we do not have a clue when the upgrade will become available for these Watches. It will probably take a few months, given the time required to test the build and integrate it with One UI.
