The Galaxy Z Fold series is the Foldable lineup of the Korean company. They recently released the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which will get seven years of software support. Unfortunately, those released before the new support period, like the Galaxy Z Fold 2, get three Android OS updates.
Galaxy Z Fold 2 arrived in August 2020, running Android 10, and with three years of Android OS support, the device received the last guaranteed Android 13 in 2023. Samsung has been rolling out monthly security patches since then, but that is also ending.
Before the recent boost in software support, flagship Samsung phones get three Android OS updates and four years of security support. This is still valid for all the premium phones launched before the Galaxy S24 series. Hence, if you own the Galaxy Z Fold 2, it’s time to upgrade to a new phone or switch to a custom ROM.
Google released Android 15 source code to AOSP a few weeks ago, and with the stable build arriving next week, we expect developers to release their Android 15 Custom ROMs. You can get a compatible one with your Galaxy Z Fold 2 or switch to a new Galaxy phone. It might interest you to know that mid-range Galaxy phones are now eligible for six years of software support.
